Scratches from Glass, Wood, and Stainless Steel

Scratches on glass, stainless steel, and wood can make surfaces appear worn and dull. Although deep scratches might need expert assistance, several minor ones could be buffed out using plain household items. At Texas Cleaning Services, we are aware of the best home hacks to resurface your areas and maintain their best appearance. Use these tips to remove scratches safely and successfully!

Removing Scratches from Glass

Glass surfaces such as windows, tables, and mirrors are liable to light scratches, but most can be erased by polishing.

Toothpaste Method: Rub a white, non-gel toothpaste into the scratch using a circular motion with a soft cloth for 30 seconds, then wash off with a damp cloth.

Baking Soda Paste: Combine baking soda and an equal amount of water to make a paste. Apply with a microfiber cloth, rinse off, and let dry.

Glass Polish or Metal Polish: A bit of cerium oxide-based glass polish can do miraculous things for heavier scratches. Apply with a clean cloth and gently buff.

💡 Pro Tip: Don't use abrasive material such as scouring pads since they may accentuate the scratches!

Repairing Scratches on Wood

Wood floors and furniture are prone to scratches, but refinishing is not always necessary to bring back their looks.

Walnut Trick: Rub a walnut or pecan over small scratches—the natural oils stain the wood and cover up imperfections.

Olive Oil & Vinegar Mix: Combine ½ cup vinegar with ½ cup olive oil and apply it to scratched spots with a soft cloth. This moisturizes the wood and minimizes visibility.

Wood Filler or Wax Crayons: For scratches that are too deep, use a wood filler or a colored wax crayon that matches the area. Apply, then buff gently with a clean cloth.

💡 Pro Tip: Always try any solution on a small, out-of-sight area first to make sure it will blend nicely with your wood's finish!

Removing Scratches from Stainless Steel

Stainless steel surfaces and appliances easily display scratches, but they can usually be buffed out.

Baking Soda & Water Paste: Combine baking soda and water to form a paste. Use with a microfiber cloth, buffing in the direction of the grain, and then wipe away.

White Vinegar & Stainless Steel Polish: Wipe the area clean with vinegar and then use a small amount of stainless steel polish and buff gently with a soft cloth.

Non-Gel Toothpaste: Similar to glass—apply, rub in a circular motion, then rinse and wipe dry.

💡 Pro Tip: Always rub in the direction of the grain to prevent causing more harm!
