How to Clean Your Stovetop for a Spotless Kitchen

Stovetop

Keeping your stovetop clean can seem like an endless task, especially if you're a fan of cooking at home. From splattered sauces to baked-on grease, it's easy for your stove to go from sparkling clean to messy in a matter of minutes. However, regular stovetop maintenance doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right steps, you can restore your stovetop to its original shine without much hassle.

At Texas Cleaning Services, we understand that cleaning your stove can be a chore, but with our expert tips, it’ll be much easier. Whether your stovetop is gas, electric, or glass, these cleaning methods will help you keep it in top shape!

Step 1: Gather Your Cleaning Supplies

Before diving into the cleaning process, make sure you have all the necessary supplies. For most stovetops, you’ll need:

  • Dish soap

  • Baking soda

  • White vinegar

  • Soft scrub brush or sponge

  • Microfiber cloths

  • Plastic or rubber spatula (optional for stubborn spots)

For glass stovetops, avoid using anything too abrasive as it can cause scratches.

Step 2: Remove and Soak Stove Components

If you have a gas stove, remove the burner grates and burner caps. For electric stoves, remove the drip pans. Fill your sink with warm, soapy water, and let these components soak while you clean the rest of the stovetop. Soaking will help to loosen the grime, making it easier to scrub away later.

Step 3: Wipe Down the Surface

Wipe away any loose crumbs and debris using a damp cloth. For glass stovetops, you can use a dry cloth to remove excess dust and food debris first. This step helps you get rid of large pieces before deep cleaning.

Step 4: Apply a Cleaning Solution

Next, it’s time to tackle the grease and stubborn stains. If you’re using a natural cleaning solution, try mixing equal parts of baking soda and water to form a paste. Apply the paste to greasy spots and areas where food is stuck. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes.

Alternatively, you can use a commercial stovetop cleaner if you prefer. Spray it evenly over the surface, especially where there are stubborn spots.

Step 5: Scrub and Rinse

After the cleaning solution has had time to work, scrub the stovetop gently with a soft scrub brush or sponge. For particularly stubborn spots, you can use a plastic or rubber spatula to scrape off any caked-on food without scratching the surface.

Once you’ve scrubbed away the grime, wipe down the stovetop with a damp microfiber cloth to remove any remaining cleaner and residue.

Step 6: Clean Burner Grates and Drip Pans

Remember those burner grates and drip pans soaking in the sink? Now that they’ve loosened up, use your sponge or scrub brush to clean them thoroughly. If necessary, apply a little more dish soap or baking soda for tough stains. Rinse them off with warm water and dry them with a clean cloth.

Step 7: Polish and Shine

For glass or ceramic stovetops, spray a little white vinegar onto the surface and wipe it down with a microfiber cloth. The vinegar will help eliminate any streaks, leaving your stovetop shiny and clean. For gas or electric stovetops, simply buff the surface with a dry microfiber cloth for a final shine.

Step 8: Reassemble

Once everything is clean and dry, reassemble your stove by placing the burner grates, caps, or drip pans back in place. Your stovetop should now be spotless and ready for your next cooking session!

Bonus Tip: Keep It Clean Between Deep Cleans

To maintain your stovetop’s cleanliness, wipe it down after every use. Even a quick swipe with a damp cloth can make a big difference in preventing food buildup and grease from hardening over time. This will save you time and effort when it’s time for a deeper clean.
