How to Clean Your Kettle: Tips from Texas Cleaning Services

Clean Your Kettle

This will not only make better tasting hot drinks but also significantly increase the life and longevity and functionality of your kettle. Here at Texas Cleaning Services, we know how key it is to take care of our household items, and this is why we bring you 4 expert tips to clean your kettle properly.

Why Clean Your Kettle?

The water you use for boiling can lead to build up of mineral deposits, such as limescale, in kettles. This can affect how well your kettle works, make it take longer to boil, and shorten its life. A clean kettle also plays an important role in making sure your tea or coffee tastes good, i.e. — fresh and clean.

Materials You'll Need

  • White vinegar or lemon

  • Water

  • Soft cloth or sponge

  • Baking soda (optional)

  • Toothbrush (optional)

Step-by-Step Clean Guide

1. Descale the Kettle :

Using Vinegar:

  1. Combine water with Equal parts white vinegar halfway.

  2. Boil the mixture for a bit and then switch off the kettle.

  3. The solution needs to work for around 30 minutes to 1 hour before it dissolves the limescale. Discard the solution, and then rinse the kettle out with fresh water to remove any remaining vinegar.

Using Lemon Juice:

  1. Do the same as with vinegar, but take lemon juice instead. Some lemon/vinegar natural cleaner- after drying it, it will give a really good citrus scent to your hands.

2. Clean Off Stubborn Deposits

  1. If there are a few stubborn deposits left, prepare a paste with baking soda and water.

  2. Make a simple paste of baking soda and a little bit of water.

  3. Using a soft cloth or sponge, apply the paste to the kettle interior

  4. Scrub gently over areas covered with limescale. Rinse thoroughly with water.

3. Wipe the Outside

  1. To do so, use a little of a mild dish soap in the water and wet a soft cloth or sponge.

  2. Exterior - use a damp cloth to remove any marks or smudges from the body of the kettle.

  3. For stubborn stains, you can apply a small amount of the baking soda and water solution using a regular free toothbrush to the area, and give it a gentle scrub.

4. Rinse & Dry

  1. Repeatedly rinse the kettle with fresh water to ensure all cleaning agents are removed from the kettle.

  2. Wipe the kettle with a clean, dry washcloth to avoid water stains and retain its shine.

5. Regular Maintenance

To keep your kettle in top condition, consider descaling it once a month if you use it frequently. This routine maintenance will help prevent heavy limescale buildup and ensure your kettle performs efficiently.

Conclusion

Cleaning your kettle is a simple task that can make a big difference in the taste of your beverages and the lifespan of your appliance. By following these steps, you can enjoy a clean, efficient kettle every time you brew your favorite drink.
